Funkee Clawed was founded in 2006 by Mark Fereday (guitar) and Mick Heatley (bass, backing vocals),
who met on a musicians wanted website. A number of guitarists and drummers passed through the ranks, but a suitable singer
could not be found. Undeterred, our heroes took on positions with May Contain Nuts (Mark and occasionally Mick), keeping
up the search as they did so.
Finally Nigel Owens came on the scene, recommended by then drummer Charlie Wisden. Not only an accomplished singer, Nigel is also a renowned thespian (don't tell the missus!) and is regularly to be seen treading the boards at the Phoenix Theatre in Bordon. As Nigel came in, Charlie left...just as the band was about to make its live debut! The final piece of the jigsaw was found in Aaron Goodall, formerly with Plug, and the band played its first gig in June 2007 at the Cricketers, Kingsley.
Aaron left for pastures new during 2010. A couple of false starts now finds us with a new drummer Ben Cook who is readying himself for Dec and our return to The Royal Oak.
The musical aim of Funkee Clawed is to play music that excites us, irrespective of when or by whom it was originally recorded. If we can add our own individual twist to it, so much the better. Hopefully the results will entertain you...give us a try!
